Stillwater Automotive FAQ’s

How do I know you’re not going to sell me something I don’t need?

You don’t have to take our word for it. We will show you what we found and let you decide what gets repaired. Our Digital Vehicle Inspection is designed to give you the whole picture of your vehicle. We will prioritize what is important now, what can be planned for later, and what we’re simply keeping an eye on. The goal is for you to understand your vehicle enough to make your own decision.

How much is this going to cost me?

That really depends on what is wrong. We’d rather diagnose the problem before throwing a price at you. Two vehicles with the same symptoms can need completely different repairs. We will perform the necessary tests, explain what we found, then let you decide if we move forward with the repairs.

Are you more expensive than other shops in Stillwater?

We won’t always be the cheapest in town, and we don’t try to be. Our focus is diagnosing the problem correctly, doing the repair the right way, communicating clearly, fast turnaround time, and standing behind our repairs with a 3year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty. We’d rather explain exactly what we’re recommending and why than compete to be the cheapest place to replace a part.

Do you call me before doing any extra work?

Yes. We want you to know what we’ve found and approve the repair before additional work is done. If any other concerns are found during our inspection, we will explain it, tell you what the expected cost is, and discuss the next step instead of assuming you want it repaired. It’s your vehicle and your money; our job is to give you the information so that you can make the decision that best suits your needs.

Why do I have to pay for diagnostic if the Check Engine Light already tells you what is wrong?

A trouble code usually tells us where to start looking-it doesn’t necessarily tell us which part needs to be replaced. Proper diagnosis can require testing circuits, components, pressure, signals or other systems to determine what is causing the problem. We would rather spend the time identifying the actual failure than have you pay for parts that your vehicle doesn’t need.

What am I supposed to do for a ride while my car is in your shop?

We can help with transportation to or from your home or office. Car trouble already disrupts your day enough; getting it repaired shouldn’t mean losing the rest of your day too. We offer our free shuttle service to every customer no matter the size of the repair. In some situations, we have been known to pick up and deliver your car to your home or work.

What happens if something you repair fails later?

All our repairs are backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty, if you have a concern after a repair, contact us and let us know what’s happening so we can determine the next step. Before approving the repair, you’re also welcome to ask exactly what warranty is applied to that particular job so you know what coverage you’re getting.

How much does it cost to diagnose my vehicle?

Our diagnostic testing starts at $89.97. The final cost depends on what is going on with your vehicle and how much testing is needed to find the problem. Some problems are straightforward, while others require more in-depth testing. If additional diagnostic time is needed, we’ll explain why and discuss the cost with you before moving forward.
